Mesothelioma & Asbestos Awareness Center

About The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center (MAA Center)

The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center is dedicated to raising asbestos and mesothelioma cancer awareness. Unlike most cancers, mesothelioma is 99% preventable and the only scientifically proven cause is due to exposure to asbestos. Providing the latest news in treatment and research, supporting patients, family, caregivers, advocates and those affected by or seeking to learn more about asbestos and mesothelioma.

Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring silicate minerals known to cause a rare, deadly cancer that affects about 3,000 people each year according to The American Cancer Society. With this in mind, MAA Center raises asbestos awareness, to prevent future mesothelioma diagnosis as well as other asbestos-related diseases and conditions. With limited mesothelioma and asbestos-related information and treatment centers available, globally, they also link individuals who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or those who have been exposed to asbestos, with their supportive online community of medical, financial and legal experts.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. Caused primarily by the inhalation of asbestos fibers, mesothelioma is most commonly diagnosed in older individuals who worked with asbestos in an industrial setting. Prognosis for mesothelioma is poor, but early detection and newer treatment methods have given many patients hope for survival.

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you have treatment options and legal rights.

Treatment

There is no cure for mesothelioma, but treatments are available to slow its spread and reduce symptoms.

Receiving a mesothelioma cancer diagnosis is difficult. Because the disease has such an aggressive malignancy, the discussion of treatment with one’s primary oncologist, family members, and loved ones is important. Nearly all mesothelioma patients have treatment options – be they curative or palliative that can extend survival, alleviate pain, and increase quality of life.

Each mesothelioma case is considered individually and there is no singular prescribed roadmap for the management of malignant mesothelioma. What’s best for each individual patient will depend on any number of factors. Diagnostic procedures such as x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and biopsies will be used to determine these factors and these tests will assist your primary care physician and/or oncologist in determining the best treatment for the individual and their particular circumstances.
