Creaky Joints

CreakyJoints, a part of the nonprofit Global Healthy Living Foundation, was founded by arthritis patient Seth Ginsberg and social entrepreneur Louis Tharp in 1999 when Seth was an isolated college freshman in his dorm room bunk bed, thinking, “Where is everyone else who is going through this?”
Together Lou and Seth started CreakyJoints, creating what has become today a robust and growing Online Patient Community (OPC).
Today, more than 100,000 people with all forms of arthritis and their families have been touched by CreakyJoints with meaningful support, updates and education, innovative advocacy and global research projects. And CreakyJoints continues to grow with new members signing up every day.
CreakyJoints has preserved its legacy of hosting a positive environment totally free-of-charge to patients and their families, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, corporate philanthropists, government grants and other private foundation support.
The first step to feeling better is to join the CreakyJoints community so that you and the people who care about you can take advantage of the many member benefits, programs and services designed specifically for you. And we will never ask you for money or donations. The information you provide will be kept locked away and never sold or rented because your privacy is as important to us as your health.

Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Greek Salad
While there is no special diet for rheumatoid arthritis, researchers have identified certain foods and supplements that may be helpful. One group of foods that reduce inflammation, called anti-inflammatory foods, has shown promise in some studies. Anti-inflammatory foods contain compounds that help control inflammation in the body, which is a hallmark of RA. These foods comprise what is known as the anti-inflammatory diet, sometimes also referred to as the Mediterranean diet.
Before beginning any new dietary or supplement regimen, it’s important to talk to your doctor.

What is Patient-Centered Research?

In 2014, CreakyJoints created a Patient-Powered Research Network called “Arthritis Power ™” with support from the Global Healthy Living Foundation and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. CreakyJoints’ innovative, nationwide research registry of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis (e.g., psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis) is led by a Patient Governor Group with input from the wider CreakyJoints community, putting patients at the center of all research conducted with the Arthritis Power registry.

Chronic Pain and Sleep

Woman unable to sleep
People with chronic pain are used to losing sleep. Between 50 and 90 percent of people with chronic pain report that they don’t sleep well, which can lead to daytime fatigue, depression, and negative effects on work and family life. There is strong data suggesting that poor sleep makes pain worse, and this becomes a vicious cycle as the pain then further disrupts sleep. Many people assume that people who are in pain don’t sleep well because the pain keeps them up at night, but the relationship between pain and sleep is actually much more complex.
