Caregivers of New Jersey (CNJ)

About Us

Caregivers of New Jersey (CNJ) is proud to offer a centralized location for answers and information on all caregiving concerns. The quickly growing number of caregivers in the state has increased the demand for advocacy, education and information.

Support Coordination

Support Coordination

Support Coordinators use their expertise to help build a planning team around the person to support him/her in the development implementation of the individual support plan, focusing on the person's desires, needs, and dreams of how and where they want to live.

CNJ Support Coordinators assisted 558 individuals during 2011.

Caregiving Coalitions

CNJ participates in building communities of caregiving stakeholders to support and advocate for the over 1.1 million unpaid caregivers living in NJ. NJ saw caregiving coalitions arise in four counties in 2011: Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset and North Essex.

In Ocean County, however, Caregivers of NJ was the leader in establishing its caregiver coalition which will support and advocate for countywide caregivers in the aging, disability and chronic illness communities. Today, slightly more than half of NJ’s population lives in a county with a caregiver coalition.

Lifespan Respite

Lifespan Respite

Lifespan respite care is a coordinated system of accessible, community-based respite care services for family caregivers of children and adults with special needs. CNJ actively promotes the concept of lifespan respite through its involvement in the New Jersey Lifespan Respite Coalition (NJLRC).

The NJLRC is a grassroots organization promoting better access to respite services for all families across the age and disability spectrum. Its membership is made up of state, local, public, private, and faith-based organizations, as well as care recipients, caregivers, and service professionals.

The Coalition recognizes that respite care needs are diverse and that respite care services in New Jersey are often fragmented.
