What Atrial Fibrillation Feels Like

Atrial Fibrillation (AF), the most common arrhythmia in the United States, affects more than 2.5 million adults and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

In the next 40 years, the prevalence of AF is projected to more than double to 5.6 million adults.

AF significantly increases the risk of stroke and heart disease, both of which are among the nation’s leading causes of death. AF is also associated with significant impairments in patient quality of life.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention

More than 250,000 deaths occur each year as a result of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). In fact, SCA claims one life every two minutes, taking more lives each year than breast cancer, lung cancer or AIDS.

To decrease the death toll from SCA, it is important for the U.S. public to understand what SCA is, what the symptoms and warning signs are and how to respond and prevent SCA from occurring. For detailed information visit www.HRSonline.org/sca
