How does prediabetes affect daily life?

It is very important to make lifestyle changes once an individual discovers that they have this condition. If it is not properly taken care of the condition can turn into type 2 diabetes. It also puts you at an increased risk for heart disease. 
 
Physical exercise
 
  • Aerobic activity for 20-30 minutes 5 days a week
 
 
Weight loss
 
  • Can improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of complications related to obesity.
 
 
Diets
 
  • Low carbohydrate diet
  • Try to limit intake of:
  • grains
  • fruits and vegetables that are high in starches
  • Try to adopt a diet composed of:
  • high protein 
  • high fat 
 
  • Mediterranean diet
  • Encourages intake of:
  • fruits
  • vegetables
  • whole grains
  • legumes
  • nuts
  • fish
  • olive oil
 
  • Low-fat diet
  • Reduction of:
  • dairy
  • oils
  • red meat 
 
  • Diabetic diet
  • Control glucose and carbohydrate intake 
  • eating less bread 
  • reducing sugary drinks such as soda
