What are the common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)?

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome can come on gradually and tend to worsen over time. Additionally, the first symptoms often begin at night/during sleeping and may awaken people from sleep.
Common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include:
  • Numbness/tingling/itching in the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers
  • Pain/burning in all fingers except the pinky
  • Weakness/clumsiness in the fingers and hand which may make everyday tasks such as writing or typing difficult
  • Dropping objects in later stages due to weakness and loss of feeling
  • Electric shock sensations that often travel from your fingers and wrist up your arm or between fingers
