The New DUI: Alcohol, Marijuana or Texting

Legal Limits Infographic

  • In most states, drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher qualify for a DUI. While this level varies from state to state, every individual is unique. Always know your limits, designate a sober driver, and realize that shelling out money for a cab will never be more expensive than taking a life (or losing your license).
  • While the number of states that have legalized medical marijuana (and in some cases, for recreational marijuana) has grown, a standardized legal limit or form of identifying dangerous levels of intoxication has yet to be decided. In states where marijuana is illegal, operating a motor vehicle with any detectible level of marijuana, is publishable by law.
  • 39 states, the District of Colombia, and Guam have banned all forms of text messaging  for drivers. Nearly half of these laws were enacted in 2010 alone. Nothing you can say via text message is worth the risk.
